Schools report that a major proportion of pupil absence is due to family
holidays during term-time and we all understand why.COST!
This scheme therefore helps to reduce the cost of your holiday, making term time holidays a less costly affair.

Every Primary School aged child in Sunderland will have been issued with a voucher. If not, please contact your school.

Reasons Against Term-time Holidays

Taking your child out of school for a week or two may seem insignificant but take a moment to consider the following...

• Valuable schooling will be lost; this may mean your child has to struggle to catch up.
• There are 28 weeks worth of holidays in a year. That is more than half a year that children are not at school!
• Planning your holidays within term time could mean your child misses out on important school tests or events.

If Term-time holidays are the only option..

Unfortunately some jobs do not always allow as much flexibility as others.
You won't qualify for the discount but in order to minimise too much
disruption for your child and school you could consider:

• When school tests or other important school events take place.
• Going away for 1 week rather than 2.
• Informing the school well in advance so teachers can plan for absence.
• Attaching holidays either side of school holidays.
• Requesting a leave of absence form from the school at least 2 weeks before you go away.
• Not taking the first week of a new academic year in September.
