What's ESC all about:

Spike kicking footballEvery Schoolday Counts is an exciting initiative in Sunderland with the aim of improving the school attendance of Primary aged pupils.

The Project was established in September 2002, with funding from the Government’s Children’s Fund until 2008.

Over 23,000 children and 16,500 families have benefited from Every Schoolday Counts, which is accessed by 88 schools.

It has a national following and Spike, the Project’s friendly attendance mascot, plays a huge role in the identity.

He is well known throughout the region and a very welcome character in and around schools.

Since the Project’s commencement Primary School attendance is at it’s highest!
